Phimosis is a condition where the foreskin of the penis is too tight to be retracted over the head of the penis. It may be present from birth — known as physiological phimosis — or develop later in life due to scarring, inflammation, or skin conditions, known as pathological phimosis.
Physiological phimosis in young children often resolves naturally with age. In teenagers and adults, phimosis that causes symptoms, pain, difficulty urinating, recurring infections, or discomfort during sexual activity generally warrants medical assessment and treatment.
